San Marco D’alunzio

This ancient village is on the summit of Mount Castro, surrounded by Nebrodi and overlooking the sea and the Aeolian Islands.

Founded in the 4th century BC by Greek settlers then taken over by the Byzantines and then the Arabs, after the fall or Rome. The Normans captured it and renamed it San Marco, in honour of the apostle. Robert Guiscard arrived in the 11th century and made San Marco d’Alunzio his military headquarters from which to conquer Sicily. History has walked the streets of this small city.
